Every now and again in Jakarta, usually around Idul Fitri, I think, they gather together all the illegally imported/produced grog that they've confiscated and run over them in a steamroller. It's enough to make a sober man weep.
Every time there's an article about this, they mention the relatively high alcohol tax.
Of course, they may have a different rate of tax between legally established importers and tourists. And laws tend not to have too much effect on decisions made by civil servants in Indonesia -- which can work for or against you, depending on how big your smile is, and how relaxed you look.
