I'm not going to go over all the reasons for cancelling Bali, but we felt it was not going to be a happy, relaxing time (as we were going to be there on the 12 Oct) so close to the recent events. The presence of extra police, army, people unsure and afraid, as they were last time (right or wrong who can say) it was not for us. Safety was a part, but only a small part, travel to any soft target area (Phuket) included, could have the same result at any time. Who knows where it is safe, and when it is safe to travel ANYWHERE. We have been lucky had 1 month in Bali only 6 months ago and look forward to our next trip in another 6 months March 06. We are both looking forward to going to Phuket (somewhere different) we are happy with our choice, but Bali was 1st choice, and making a change was a difficult one, we are comfortable with Bali, we know where to go, have many friends but it was not our time to go back now. I'm sure many will go back as we are, I was just interested in how others found a different location from what they had experienced in Bali. I do not want to cause any stirring on the forum either, but was just interested in reading what others had experienced. And I am well aware this is a BALI TRAVEL FORUM which could also have opinions on other places compared to Bali. And I still might post when I get back from Phuket.
