I feel the key is (and i am sure everyone has their own view on this)
make sure you drink plenty of water (bottled of course) and look after yourself, too much alcohol/partying and letting your body get run down certainly doesnt help.
I've been over there 10 times and never had the so called Bali Belly i actually seem to get Aussie Belly when i get back and start drinking our water and our food.
I am sure everyone will have their own lists of fav. resturants to suggest BUT i think the all-time-safe one is Indo National on Jl Sahadewa, it is owned/operated by Kerry and Milton (aussies) the food is fantastic, the bowl of salad with every meal is devine!!! (proabably because you can hoe it down with no worries).
I've never had a 'dud' meal in Bali yet.....just eat in places that look clean (which the bulk of them are) and have plenty of customers.
On a recent trip over there, met a couple that were only eating at KFC, McDonnalds and if anywhere else avoided meat....3 days later they were both crook.......you can only eat so much junk before your body reacts, go over there and enjoy the food and try not to worry about something that may not even happen
