I recommend the Puri Santrian - especially the Beach Club. Loved it. Check thier websire. Tried Mercure last time; was very modern but cool and lacked character for me, but it had just re-opened and may improve after settling in!

For meals there are lots of places in and around the Puri Santrian - dinner at the Mezanine (part of Puri) fantastic value for high quality; Donalds and Bobbies on the beach. Directly across from Mezanine is a small and very good place that serves International food called the Nouveau, we went three times in ten days. Also check out http://www.balieats.com/ bit dated but useful.

Shopping is not like Kuta. The main street Jln Tamblingan starts near Puri Santrian in the south and there's a neat little local shopping area but then it is a long pretty straight road past the Hilton, past a supermarket, then on until near the Grand Bali Beach Hotel. There are small shops almost all the way along selling usual tourist stuff. If you must go shopping get a bemo to the north end and slowly, very slowly walk back. We only found one "in your face" place and that was the Sindhu "Art" Market on the inland side of the main road, try to avoid it. It is not the Beach Market, diffent place. I will definitely go back to Sanur just as soon as my bank balance allows, and stay at the Puri Santrian again.
