would be somewhere like Griya or Puri Santrian, Gazebo, Besakih (smaller grounds) Sanur Beach Hotel, Paradise Plaza, Peneeda View, Inna Sindhu Bch , all are largish hotels with good pools , all have websites where you can get a good idea of the layout and facilities
The shopping is nothing like Kuta , more like an English seaside village , a rambling main road lined both sides with shops, restaurants and hotel entrances, and a parallel beach walk with more dining and hotels and a lovely market stall area at the northern end ( Sindhu) . Plenty to do around there, the beach has just been redone , and cheap and quick to get a bemo or taxi to Ubud, Kuta etc for the day . More Europeans in Sanur i think, and fewer Aussies (if that matters to you ) I have always found it has a mixed friendly cosmapolitan feeling
