Just reread my message..didn't do before posting. mean't to say not afar walk. Everything vicki m typed was what i found. Also,if u get an upgrade in ur package, i did, but had to spend 1st night in one that wasn't & right next to kitchen & they only have screens on windows, making it more noisy..once moved, loved it. Stayed on first level in GUNUNG ROOMS, close to recep & restaurant, pool & spa (set in a cave!!) lowest level. Too cold for me to use the pool so suited better, as i did enough walking when in Ubud. The resort is amazing & unusual. Unforuntately, never got to eat at the Ubud restaurant (have my list for next trip)but did get to the INDUS, would rec. going before sunset, just amazing!!
While I am typing..1st day met a man in town, ida bagus wayan surata, he is a retired school teacher & for $5 will walk around the town with u, very educational(he has a guide ticket). next day hired a driver & did the tour up to the volcano with him. But,remember he is a teacher so, starts straight away teaching bali,felt like i had to do homework that night, lovely man who enjoys passing on knowledge. He can be found opposite the markets/main centre or i have the drivers PH number, who is from the same village & I'm sure could find him, if u would like.
