Hey Mitch
We have been importing to NZ for around 5 years and have used various cargo companies. However we are now using a company that I can 100% recommend. Our last container arrived with minimal breakages (the rule is allow 10%) however I can count on 1 hand the breakages we had. The information is as follows
PT Mega Ratu Agung
JL Nakula no 9
Legian
Kaja
Kuta 80361
ph 62361732666
email cargo@megaratuangung.com

Contact Komang Mustada

This company is used by Bali Stone who puts a large amount of business his way, therefore the clients are well looked after. We could email and or phone them with no problems at all.

With regard to buying product to sell at the markets it depends on the product you are after. To follow are a few that we use but bear in mind we have used them for many years and have formed a relationship with them regarding pricing etc.

hasan Basari - Kuta square jewellery, bags, mirrors etc
geneva -handicraft

Bali stone - stone products (wouldnt advise selling this at the market as you would need a hiab to lift some of it ) LOL

I use Kuta Kidz for all my clothing as I am a designer here in NZ and they make to my requirements, I have now got the rights to the label in NZ due to the large volume we put through. If you are looking for kids clothing I would suggest just looking around all the markets and get a feel for the product and price. I have been known to pick up some great product at prices Im happy with from street vendors.

We also use a lady called wayan who is situated in Poppies II. Her business is on the bend just before the Satria hotel (not sure if the spelling is correct) heading towards the beach on Poppies II. She doesnt muck around with her pricing if you tell her that you are buying to resell and given a few days usually gets what you want in the quantities required. Just check the garments before leaving for any missing buttons or stains etc. This is adivse I will give using any street vendor, It avoids disppointment later on. However she will fix anything that is not right even if you took it back.

The main things to consider when exporting are to

1. Have a good cargo company in Bali
2. Have a good customs broker in Australia that will provide you with all the costs involved with landing product. There are alot of costs that need to be considered. Duty, GST, fumigation if applicable, cartage, his fees etc etc etc.
3. Be prepared for a few breakages especially if you are sending fragile products LCL (not a full container)

We started off very small and over the years have grown due to our own confidence and also our relaxed attitude when dealing with people in Bali. There is a large trust factor, especially for us when we leave $60,000.00 NZD in goods in Bali that we have to wait for a few months to receive. Thats where our cargo company comes in, we leave alot of our product in there warehouse and they slowley collect other product from our suppliers as it becomes available. Therefore a trustworthy cargo company is a must.

Anyway I have rattled on for ever. If there is any further info you might like just email me at minxkids@xtra.co.nz and I will try to answer any further questions.

Every persons experiences with exporting from Bali will be different, and we are still learning with each trip.

Our attitde is to have fun and enjoy it.
