Angola, Togo, Sudan, Algeria &...Indonesia???
A bit of research turned up some interesting information!
The Australian government website smarttraveller.gov.au currently warns against non-essential travel to 13 countries. These countries are Algeria, Angola, Central African Republic (CAR), Colombia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Haiti, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Togo & Yemen
A number of Western countries that have experienced recent devastating terrorist attacks (and whose governments have issued ongoing warnings of further attacks) are not included in the smarttraveller.gov.au list of countries against which non-essential travel is advised. In most cases, the governments of these nations seem to consider their own vulnerability to terrorist attacks far more serious than Australian government advisories would suggest
The level of travel warning for Indonesia and, in particular Bali, seems inconsistent with countries such as U.K., Spain, Israel and Egypt and excessive when compared to the level of terrorist action and civil unrest in Algeria, Angola, Central African Republic (CAR), Colombia etc. with which Indonesia has been compared in smarttraveller.gov.au
Conclusion? There appears to be a 'softly softly' approach to travel warnings applied to Western and Western aligned countries when compared to the advice issued by the governments themselves.
