We made the decision not to go. Breaks my heart but with two kids aged 1 and 4, felt it was the best.
Apart from the massive pressure from family and friends assuming we would not go and giving their reasons why we shouldn't, before we had made up our minds.
But the dust has settled now and kind of wish we hadn't cancelled.
We thought that holiday wouldn't be as much fun if we had to keep alert and didn't feel comfortable dining out or shopping. even thought if we went that only one parent would go out at a time just in case.
Then decided what's the point if we can't really relax and enjoy the whole bali experience.
So i would say if you want to go, go. Recent interview with Alexander Downer in the paper in Adelaide said that it was unlikely that you would be killed by a terrorist in Bali. We have lost 113 people on our roads in SA this year and 4 in Bali - I think i like the Bali odds...
Enjoy the culture, shopping, food, people and fun. just be alert and stay away from large crowds of westerners. if you have seen the footage of the bombings, you will know that both places were packed - which is what the travel warnings say to avoid.
Good luck and safe trip
Allison
