and we really enjoy the distance to walk into Kuta. Personally I wouldn't enjoy staying in the craziness of Kuta, but we tend to wander in most days at least once. Depending on what you want we like staying at the budget Green Garden, the atmosphere is nice, the staff lovely, and the food at the restaurant is very cheap. There's lots of nice eateries around.
For money I would recommend taking cash. It's by far the easiest way to do it. We tend to take it in a money belt, and if you're staying at a reputable place they'll have a safe you can leave it in.
IMHO $A100 a day is cutting it a bit fine. If you could save a little more you'd find that an extra $50 or so a day could make a big difference. I suspect that simply because you're on holidays you tend to spend a lot more than you realize. Partially because things are so cheap, and if you're anything like me then it's easy to spend more than you realize.
