Given the recommends by Lorraine and Doug (on this forum), I chose not to ask light a cigarette lighter underneath the pearls. I chose to accept that they were the real deal and one day, when I care to spend the money, I'll put them in for a valuation. Its up to you whether you want to test them and if you put "pearls" into the search of this forum, many people explain what to do to test them. I'm choosing to believe they are fresh water pearls from Lombok and I love them. Good Luck.
