No way would I expect someone to carry my bag for that. I know it is the "official" rate but the signs haven't been changed for years even though the exchange rate has doubled.
You can pay in Aussie dollars but notes are preferrable to coins.
You can pay each or give them a note and they will share it.
If you have 8 bags you will need a few porters. I give them 10.000 each person which is only about $1.30.
Remember this is not a tip but it is their wage. They only earn what they get from you.
