Just days before the 2002 attack the US issued a warning against going to big clubs like the Sari club,.. which's popular not only for Australian but also yanks and the US armed forces on RR,... ALSO German tourists recieved a warning and most left Bali early days before the attack.
Now obviously warning are about all the time and that many are false, but some act on them and some don't... in the case of the 2002 attack the US tourist took the warning seriously and so did the Germans,.. could have been good judgement or just plain luck
