i really don't think the bomb went of to divert the publics attention from rising domesitc fuel prices.

because of the following points.

1 . the majority of the country does not give Bali particulaly much attention.
2. as big a tourism is, it is still a small part of the overall Indonesia Economy , therefore not much concern to the average Indonesian outside of Bali.
3. The present President of Indonesia very much appears to be an honorable person. But he is somewhat hamstrung in what i believe he would love to really do by the current necessity to remain in a coullition with parties with thier own agendas and self important ego's , agendas that do not necessarilry reflect what is best for the majority of people in the country. A Sad fact of life in Indonesia .

4. I also believe that the President want to Enhance relations with the global world , not shrink away from it or move unidirectional towards the middle eastern nations. Nations that might have excess money but are not overly generous in giving it out. And also what middle eastern nations does anyone know that is a shining example of progressive nation building , or has a healthy economy and industry outside of Oil Wealth. If Indonesia was to rely on middle eastern assistance it would always remain in living on trickle down handouts and would never achive its potential as a nation.

So if the plan was to set a bomb of in Bali to divert attention from rising fuel costs, the outcome would only dampen the situation in Bali, it would have little to no affect for the other 99% of the population. Not really pratical for even the most devious and uncareing mind.
