Arrived back yesterday. I have read this forum on and off for a number of years and really took advantage of the information to plan our latest trip.
This trip was special as my partner & I were celebrating 25 years of marriage and it was our first trip away without the children the oldest being 21 yo. We used ff points and flew to Singapore for 1 night, Bali for 9 nights and back to Singapore for 2 nights.
Partner wanted to stay at Sanur so we booked Puri Santrian and stayed in their Club Rooms. We were very happy with the resort and even happier with our accommadation.
We have been to Bali a number of occasions the last time was Dec 2000. So this holiday was about relaxing, shopping and enjoying the Balinese people.
We ordered 4 leather jackets from French Leather at Legian. Could not fault them or the quality of the jackets. We shopped at various local shops at Kuta, Legian and Sanur.
Overall we had a great time and are planning to return, probably 2007.
I must admit I didn't intend to to a JBR. But I have read a lot of comments both negative and positive re the latest bombings and guess I felt a need to say my 2 cents worth......
I was in London in the 1970's when the IRA bombings were happening....and now in Bali for the latest bombings. I am a young 50+ and want to get the most out of life.
I truly believe these latest bombings were not aimed at Australia....they were possibly aimed at the world but not Australia. If they had wanted to harm Australia all these terriosts had to do was wait until the next day. A number of bars in Kuta had the NRL Tigers Vs Cowboys Grand Final...plus you would have a large number of aussies togehter... a very easy target!!!
The alleged mad house of people leaving Bali. We found security was beefed up at the airport. This caused queues to form. But at then end of the day there was no chaos, only travllers like my wife and I going home on the day we planned to go home.
The security around Bali has been beefed up. Earlier in our holiday we called into the Padma Hotel's restaruarnt and our back packs were searched. This was the only place we found that did this but suspect more and more places will follow.
Finally, this forum should be used by people wanting to learn more about Bali. If you have decided that you are never going back to this place full of wonderful people then that is your choice.....why continue to force your ideas in a forum meant for people who do want to go back time and time again.
Well that was probably 5 cents worth and not just my 2 cents.....
My first trip to Bali was 1976 and yes the place has changed but suprisngly not the people. The only high rise hotel I can recall in 1976 was the Grand Bali Beach. The smells are the same, the roads bigger with more cars...but the drivers still as insane. That hello from everybody and you look in my shop is all the same.
Yes we will go back and yes our kids also love the place and they will go back. Life is what you make of it and we enjoy that part of our lives that Bali offers ......
Muzz.
