There are huge poultry farms in Bali. I would say most of their chickens are local. Bird flu is not transmitted from properly cooked chickens. There have been outbreaks of Newcastle disease in chickens over the years in Bali, but as with bird flu it does not affect cooked meat. The disease is transmitted by contact with the faeces of chickens. At present to control the disease all birds in a flock that has some birds with bird flu must be destroyed. The problem is that the farmers do not report outbreaks, for obvious reasons.
