Yes, I agree the police are corrupt. I explained why and the forms the corruption takes. I explained why the inability to find two guys has nothing to do with corruption.
You said, "the Bali bombers got light sentences". I said that some of them will die. That doesn't seem very light. The light sentences were for very peripheral players. There's a big friggin' difference.
Is Bashir the mastermind? Nobody has been able to prove it, and not because they haven't tried.
Is Indonesia doing enough to protect us? Who knows? What is "enough"?
Can they unilaterally eliminate terrorism when the conditions that breed terrorism still exist globally? I doubt it. They could catch and kill every terrorist in Indonesia today, and more would grow back tomorrow.
Terrorism is not a finite tangible noun. It is a process that occurs due to circumstances and events worldwide. Indonesia is caught up in crap that happens between the US and Iraq and Afghanistan and Iraq and Libya and Syria and a few other places. Between Israel and Palestine. Between Australia and the US and the foreign policies and immigration laws. And individual Indonesians are getting caught up in domestic conflicts.
It's a big job ahead of everyone.
So I ask you this: Are we doing enough to protect the Indonesians who are suffering for our decisions?
I say we have to work together. And part of that is not making divisive statements that contain misinformation aiming to show that Indonesia does everything badly.
Indonesia's efforts have not been flawless, but they deserve a hell of a lot more credit than they're getting.
