I actually wondered if the reason there's so many Indonesians is because pregnant/breastfeeding women don't have have to fast. So each year they make sure they're up the duff and put off the diet for another year.
Islam was made for Arabs, and sometimes doesn't translate well to the tropics. You don't usually feel like a kebab till well after dark anyway, but in countries like Indonesia and Malaysia with so much good food around and so close at all times, fasting must be agony.
Do they bang the drums in India too? Dawn is around the time I'm usually crawling into bed. I'm gonna be a mess next year (I'll just miss Ramadhan this year). I'll have to make sure I'm so drunk I can sleep through anything.
