I was on one of those planes and it WAS NOT full. I had 3 seats and slept all the way to Perth. The 4 rows in front of me were empty. They left the exit rows empty in case anyone needed to lay down.
The Sydney flight was full. I got to ther airport at 8pm and had the choice of going to Darwin or Perth then on to Sydney from there.
I did not imagine the empty seats. I was told the Sydney flight on Monday was not full.
I checked the QANTAS staff site when I got home on Monday afternoon and there were still over 100 seats available.
