I live in the south east and actually avoid London like the plague that it is. I certainly avoid the tubes, though that's nothing new. But I can do, as I work from home and only need to go to London for the occasional meeting with clients.
Oddly, I don't avoid Madrid or Bali, and have, in fact, been back from Jimbaran for just a week. I shall be returning next year. Again. It's a question of balancing potential costs against guaranteed rewards.
