Having just gone through radiation treatment for cancer and approaching our 50th Wedding anniversary on the 22nd October I had decided to surprise my wife who I thought needed and deserved a holiday with an unplanned trip to Bali. I booked business class seats and accommodation in great secrecy with Kim at San /michelle and paid for the trip on Friday last.
We are having a family party on the 22nd and the trip is booked for the 29th It was my intention to present her with the tickets and itinerary then, having been about 25 times the short notice I knew would not worry her. When I saw the news of the bombing in Sunday's paper morning's paper I went sick and then the dilemma whether to tell her or just cancel
Finally after some soul searching I decided to come clean and discuss it with her rather than drop it on her with a weeks notice under the circumstances. The result of our deliberations are that if Garuda can guarantee there will be a flight the day we have booked we will go - the family will be aghast I expect but then they don't know Bali as we do
