You wrote very well and clearly. It was good to have a well thought out posting like this.
All I can say is going or not is personal, as you say. And for me, personally, not going with or without children is allowing the horror to live on. This may be different for other people. People who decide not to go after thinking things through should not be put down, nor should the people who decide to go.
I lived in Bali through the 2002 bombings. The Monday after, my moslem neighbour accross the road took my eldest son to school because I was too exhausted to take him. This same neighbour and all the others at the mosque around the corner were in tears over the bombing and were unanimous in their statements about the perpetrators and the punishments they deserved.
All I ask, on behalf of friends and family who need the support of tourism in Bali, is that decisions are not made on a "knee-jerk" basis, but well thought out.
