How can you feel safe anywhere in Bali if
you have to be suspicious of people with
backpacks who can wonder into any hotel,
restaurant ect... at any given moment and
blow themselves up?
Just picturing myself on bustling Jalan Laksmana (eat street)
having dinner @ Trattoria, Khaima ect.. and have to asked myself
do I feel relaxed ?
Only time will tell.
I am for do not let the terrorist win and keep supporting
the wonderful people of Bali but at the same time Bali needs
to do something other than just wait it out until the tourists
come back and this will happen all over again for the third time.
Obviously the under the car mirror and trunk checks are not
doing it.
How about 6 month and a fine for smoking a joint and
immediate death by firing squat for organized mass murderers ?
My personal time line:
1) Pan Am 103 Dec. 1988: was on same flight 2 months earlier
2) World Trade Center NYC 1993: used to walk thru WTC every morning
to go to work and continued doing so.
3) Sept. 11th 2001 : we survived and still live happily 2 blocks
from site.
4) Oct 2002 Bali 1st bombing: 1st Bali vacation with my wife in
June 2002 to get away from Sept 11th
experience.Stayed at 4 Seasons jogging
Jimbaran beach (lovely).
5) Oct 2005 Bali 2nd bombing: Just got back 3 weeks ago from Bali
it was our 6th visit since June '02
We enjoy Bali and its people but something needs to be done more
different than just the usual precautions.
