I was in Bali in Oct 02 and after the bombing I think all of the hotels increased their security checking (I know they did at the Dynasty). I was back in June this year & did notice the hotel we were staying in seemed to be doing random security checks and I probably only noticed that because I had been there previously. So I would asume they would be doing the same now.
I also would like to say if I was in your mother & sister's position at the moment I would also be going :).
