I'm in pain and shock. I took my wife and two kids to Bali in August and had a wonderful wonderful time. We ate in Jimbaran, we shopped in Matahari. We were there on a Saturday night at 8pm, 6 weeks ago. I don't know whether to feel lucky or guilty. I know I feel sickened and appalled. Having been there so recently gives these events a terrible immediacy. When I tried to tell my wife what had happened (I heard it first on the news) I couldn't speak for tears.
I feel huge sympathy for all the victims of these awful events. As well as the dead and injured, and their friends and relations, this sympathy extends to the people of Bali, who will suffer for years as a result of this. From my personal experience, the Balinese deserve much much better than this.
