From now onwards you may anticipate a few flooding downpours; at its worst it may last a day or more, followed by some respite.

We were in Denpasar about 12 days ago, when the first bad downpour occurred. Entering and exiting Borobodur gold shop in Hasanuddin St, we waded through a foot of water each way from and to the taxi.

As we waited in a foot of water, in the taxi, to enter the chaos of local traffic, my attention was drawn to a bit of kerbside marketing.
The better-prepared cockroaches, of which about a million had floated up from below ground, were selling welly-boots and umbrellas to their less fortunate brothers and sisters. Those coming out of the gold shops, obviously a bit more prosperous, were investing in mini-Zodiacs powered by watch batteries, to get them home.

Would I lie? Never! I'm a friend of Cracker's, a well credentialled purveyor of the absolute truth. He would know that, amongst the many languages I speak, is Bahasa Cockaroacha. This enabled me to understand the litle cries of 'I geeff you goot prraiss' etc.

Enjoy your Bali and, if in December you meet an exceptionally handsome Oz-Irish bloke with a cane, hobbling through the waters, that'll be me.
