Day 3 - Saturday 15th October
Today is Kuningan which is equivalent to our Christmas to the Hindu religion.
Awoke early again today, 6 am. Was a lot cooler this morning. Went down to the restaurant for breakfast at 7 am. Mark had his usual two fried eggs but decided on sausages this morning with toast, orange juice and coffee while I opted for two poached eggs and ham, toast and orange juice. After breakfast we returned to our room and decided to have an easy morning by watching Meet the Fockers on DVD.
While watching the DVD had a call from Ayu who asked if she could visit us in our room. We thought she wanted to do the housekeeping. I was pleasantly surprised when she presented us with a basket of fruit and Balinese cakes and biscuits and also gave me a pink pen on a neck cord with Indonesian dates and writing on it. She said she had noticed that I liked pink (I wear a lot of pink) and it was a souvenier for me from her and everytime I wrote with it I would remember her. This was to thank us for the gifts we had given her yesterday for her daughter. This was totally unexpected by us and actually bought tears to my eyes. She also told us she was going to bring in traditional Balinese outfits and dress us up so we could take photos. I gave her a huge hug and said thankyou. We have definitely made a friend for life here.
After watching the movie I left Mark at the hotel and got a blue cab to go and headed off do some more shopping. First stop was off to Geneva Handicrafts at Jalan Raya, Kerobokan. This place is three stories with furniture on the ground floor and the upper two floors of handicrafts and wood products. Went there to get a jewellery box and mirror I had seen on their website. They did not have the jewellery box I was after and the mirror was a lot bigger than I had anticipated so didn't get either. Spent a bit of time having a browse through but nothing else I really wanted so left here empty handed.
Back to Makro again to get some more supplies for our school visit. Gee I love this place. Wish they had it in Adelaide. Once again got a temporary card for day at the service desk to avoid any entry fees. Bought 41 backpacks 27 900 Rp (AUS $3.72) each, 7 packets of faber castell junior grip coloured pencils 12 600 Rp (AUS $1.68) each, 8 packets of creativity coloured pencils (3 packs) 11 227 Rp (AUS $1.50) each pack, 17 packets of joy art coloured pencils 9 900(AUS $1.32) each pack, 8 kiku pencil cases (2 pack) 21 527 Rp (AUS $2.87) each pack, 6 marantha pencil cases (3 pack) 15 900 Rp (AUS $2.12) each pack, 4 staedtler erasers (10 pack) 10 900 Rp (AUS $1.45) each pack, 2 joyro/sunlit pencil sharpeners (24 pack) 9 350 Rp (AUS $1.25) each pack, 4 forido glue sticks (12 pack) 11 250 Rp (AUS $1.50) each pack, 2 drums of 100 chuppa chups 41 624 Rp (AUS $5.55) each drum and a packet of 25 tim tam twin packs 27 758 Rp (AUS $3.70). Total bill for all of this including 197 616 Rp (AUS $ 26.35) tax was 2 173 752 Rp (AUS $289.83). Also bought some Rejoice conditioner from the pharmacy section 10 010 Rp (AUS $1.35).
From Makro I went back to the hotel where I then spent a couple of hours loading up the backpacks with supplies. Each backpack contained a packet of textas, a packet of coloured pencils, a lead pencil, a blue pen, an eraser, a pencil sharpener, a glue stick, an exercise book, a pencil case, a chuppa chup, a tube of toothpaste, a toothbrush, a clip on koala, a small soft toy, a packet of snap cards, a super bouncy ball and a yoyo.
After finishing this we decided it was time for some lunch. Just wanted a fairly lazy day so opted to eat in at hotel restaurant. As the hotel was so quiet we were the only people dining at the restaurant however at this stage there were a couple of other people staying in the hotel. Mark had spring rolls with duck in them 11 500 Rp (AUS $1.53) and calamari 18 500 Rp (AUS $2.47) while I had sate ayam 30 000 Rp (AUS $4.00). We both had a small bintang 8 000 Rp (AUS $1.07) each. Total bill came to 76 000 Rp (AUS $10.13) but we paid 90 000 Rp (AUS $12.00). The food was all very yummy. Mark particularly enjoyed the spring rolls with duck and later in our trip said these were the best ones he had.
After lunch we headed out to do a little more shopping. Bought Mark a pair of bintang boardshorts, a bintang t-shirt and a No fear tank top 90 000 Rp (AUS $12.00). Not sure where we ended up buying these but know it was along Jalan Kartika Plaza somewhere. Stopped in at Jennys shop again which is on Jalan Kartika Plaza opposite the Green Garden Hotel. Bought 2 under the counter Roxy t-shirts, 2 under the counter billabong t-shirts and a body and soul t-shirt for myself for 130 000 Rp (AUS $17.33). Also stopped in at Diannes shop which is two doors down from Jennys and bought a beautiful dolphin print wrap around long skirt for myself for 30 000 Rp (AUS $4.00).
We walked down to Discovery Mall and ordered 2 gold plated heart pendants with photo etching of our two daughters on them. One for each of our mothers as a gift for having our two girls for a week each while we had our holiday in Bali. I was given a docket saying cost was 470 000 Rp (AUS $62.67) and paid 200 000 Rp (AUS $26.67) deposit. They would be ready to collect the next day.
Went up stairs to Rumatikita to get some skate shoes for our youngest daughter and our nephew for Christmas presents. Bought a pair of Barbie skate shoes for daughter for 110 000 Rp (AUS $14.67). Unfortunately for nephew the only ones they had to fit him were the plain black ones which cost 200 000 Rp (AUS $26.67) so we had to settle for these. We also bought two packs of spare wheels which were 59 000 Rp (AUS $7.87) for both packs.
We decided to head back to our hotel and relax around the pool for a while. While we sat around the pool we pumped up the 20 footballs and several soccer balls with the hand pump we had bought over for the school we would visit in a few days time. Well should I say I pumped up one and then Mark was kindly volunteered to pump up the rest. Went back to our room after a little while and watched Team America World Police on DVD.
At 7 pm we decided it was time for dinner but could not be bothered heading out so once again we opted to dine in at the hotel restaurant and again were the only people dining. Not that this worried us at all. It was nice to have all the attention of the staff. Mark again had spring rolls with duck 11 500 Rp (AUS $1.53) but chose to have satay this time 30 000 Rp (AUS $4.00) while I enjoyed the Cap Cay 22 000 Rp (AUS $2.93). We once again both had a small bintang 8 000 Rp (AUS $1.07) each. The meal was very yummy again. The total bill came to 79 500 Rp (AUS $10.60) but once again just paid them 90 000 Rp (AUS $12.00).
Headed back to our room for a relaxing and reasonably quite night watching a DVD and having a few drinks as we had a big day planned for tomorrow.
Cheers
