1. take an old mobile which is not locked to a carrier. (Test= swap cards between different carriers and if they work in each others phone it is not locked.)
2. Go to one of the phone places. I go to XL ground floor mataharies store in Kuta Square Just outside food supermarket section.
3. They will put a phone card in for you and set it up. Generally first card is 80.000rp with 50,000 free calls. They give you a number and away you go.
7 cents australian to send a text to Aust. Just drop the 0 from the mobile number and put a +61 in front. Plus sign is found by pressing the bottom left hand key on your keypad twice, therefore 0424890890 will become +61424890890. The receiver will then have your mobile number and can ring or text you, or you can ring home by putting the +61 in front of a normal number. Phone to home about half the cost of using telstra or Optus. REMEMBER if you take your telstra or Optus mobile you will pay to receive phone calls from australia as well as the sender.
If you take your testra phone because the above is too hard etc remember to ring your carrier and get them to put you on global roming so you can receive calls overseas.
