Marble Tiles
We needed to upgrade our ensuite and remembered seeing heaps of tiles shops on our last trip.We thought maybe we should look into prices on marble as we love the bathrooms at the hotels in bali where we stayed before. We priced tiles in bali and then after speaking to Trisha found out a customer of hers had just shipped some back.Armed with this info Komang took us to the same marble and granite shop in Denpasar. We bought 25 metres of grade 1 marble to be shipped back to Perth. Now we just have to get it here and we will have our own patch of paradise in our bathroom. The smaller statue is also going in our bathroom.
Shopping
We couldnt go past Diannes shop, opposite the dynasty. She is a lovely lady and we got heaps of good quality clothes from her on the last trip. Dianne is getting 2 cotton tops made for me to wear over my bathers. My hubbys parents will pick these up on their trip in october. We were also given the name of a shop in Sahadewa street which I think is the old garlic lane. The shop is called Miss Debby ,and we were given bottles of ice cold water and bought lots of surf clothing and hats for chrissie presents. Most of it is fixed price and VERY cheap. It is only about 4 shops along from Melasti street. We always go to Indigo kids in Melasti street as I just love the girls clothes they have.I got a blue halterneck dress with beading and silver shoes to match. And a white kaftan style dress with embroidery and beading .More pressies for christmas. These are expensive by bali standards but for $20 each are a bargain and once again we were happy. The Fairy Shop in jalan padma utara is good for alook. If you have longer they will make costumes or dressups to order. We got a white leaotard with tulle to the floor, matching little pumps and a tiara for about $20.Our daughter is going t love it.I can just see her now, dancing in and out between the umbul umbals to balinese music! We also walked down Melasti street to top ten for handbags but was'nt that impressed as there are many shops selling different bags and alot of them are good quality. We walked a bit further on and on the left spotted a small shop with the most beautiful bright tunic tops and matching peasant skirts for little girls. My brother has 4 year old twin gilrs so for $5.71 a peace we now have an orange set and 2 aqua blue sets (our daughter got on too). And being a not so tiny woman I was pleasantly suprised to find a small shop that had lightweight knitted wrap cardigans in MY SIZE. I got a lovely blue one and have worn it twice with the necklace I bought to match. I also went to Divine Diva in seminyak. This shop caters to larger woman and there were many tops skirts ,dresses. Its about 100 metres from the bintang supermarket and got an aqua blue kaftan with lime green spiral stitching on the hem $9. Forgot to mention R2U the shoe shop in Jalan Padma Utara next to the fairy shop.We got the name from the forum, The description was so right.Hot,stuffy and shoes stacked to the ceiling.I thought I was in shoe heaven (or Imelda Marcos wardrobe!) The only problem is finding your size. The end of the shoe is all you can see.But success! I wanted 2 green sparkly thongs and I got them.Worth a vist but you may need a bit of time to hunt through.2 pairs cost 50,000rp as they were a bit unusual with brass medalions on top.Last trip I saw those big white shiny shells that stand up and found out we could bring them back so we got 3.In mataharis we couldnt find shoes for our 10 year old as they were all a bit to young for him. Then at the top of the escalator saw what would be the trendy young mens section to the right.Well we got 2 pairs of shoes and 1 for our 6 year old.Young guys were buying trendy shoes and our kids do not have big feet so its worth a look. They got heaps of comments on them. Also in the bottom floor of mataharis is a book shop and we bought the kids a colouring book about bali with a story in itThese were $3 each.
Dining
We had a few meals by the pool at our hotel and room service and it was all great. We went to Papas for dinner one night and my meal was lovely but hubbys average. We both agreed they had the best chips in bali so if you need a fix head there. On the last night we had gone to seminyak and then got a bluebird taxi to go somewhere else but he was the worst driver we have come across and we ended up asking him to just stop and let us out.We didnt have a clue where we were but as we got out could smell the most amazing smells. It was a small restaurant called YUT'Z and they had a special For 39,000rp for a steak panfried potatoes and vegies. It is just a small place but had many people eating .You get a welcome drink and we also order garlic bread. We were served a bowl of mixed lettuce and a tasty dressingas entree. They also do not scrimp on the booze. It was the best meal we had and everyone seemed happy .We are sending our inlaws there for a meal when they go in October. The address is jalan werkudara 521 legian-kaja.It was formally Lo's Warung.
On the forum we were told about the Kuta Paradiso serving high tea.Well theyserve it about 3 times a week (it should be every day) and we missed the first one so on the day we left we had 1/2 an hour before we went to the airport.On this day they served it it the lobby.They had;
Mini spring rolls
Mini quiches
Satay sticks
Club sandwiches
Tiny toasted bread with cheese basil and tomato YUM
Shortbread
Custard puffs
Fruit kebabs and
My favourite mini lemon tarts, like lemon meringue pie,YUMO
Tea,coffee. And cost $10 for the two of us.
It is served between 3 and 5pm. I suggested that they put a sign at the front of the hotel as it would be very popular after a hard day shopping or lounging around.
I think we covered most of our short trip.We didnt get to do any sightseeing but it was very enjoyable and interesting going to less touristy areas to do some of our shopping. And we do have a list for things to do and see NEXT TIME!!!!!
Although bartering is fine at times we also tipped considerably and laughed loudly when we gave dianne more than we agreed on and she called out DIANNE WINS!.We gave all our drivers more than the fare except one who drove horribly and was'nt interested in what we wanted. And we took over toys and handed them out to kids especially in areas not as busy.We also gave them coins and some lollies. The looks and smiles really make your day.
