Next time you are overweight and they are going to slug you for it, just take your ticket and head over for an upgrade.
We did this in February and instead of paying a couple of hundred for excess and sitting in economy we paid a couple of hundred each and got into the fancy lounge at the airport, had wonderful seats in business class and our excess luggage went for free.
We actually weren't that far over the limit but decided to put the money to a better use than just a freight charge, should've bought more really ;-)
