I stayed at the Pelangi during the last two weeks of July and although i have stayed in much nicer hotels before (can be a bit of a snob at times), my holiday wasn't ruined.
I agree about the brekkie - not up to my standards so stuck to toast and jam, but then again it meant I had room for a nice lunch and dinner - plus my belly didn't stick out in my bikini when I had my morning sun bake.
Again, it's a bit of a pain about not being able to call taxis to the hotel, but we just walked round the corner and up the road and would always find a bluebird cab (v. cheap) driving past, within 5 minutes.
The lobby is lovely, the staff are great and the rooms are just fine. I was a bit concerned when I researched the Pelangi further after booking and the only negative comment was thet the rooms were small and there was no balcony in the superior rooms. Total rubbish - my room was a great size and we had a little balcony (you could drag a chair out) which we only used for hanging our wet swimmers on as we preferred to sit out by the pool or a bar. Seperate shower and bath too in the bath rooms. Everything was very clean. Plus they have lots of satelite channels which come in handy when confined to your bed with Bali Belly.
We were chatting to another couple who had stayed the previous year and they though it had gone down hill a little, there used to be drinks promotions etc - apparently the management has changed.
As far as entertainment is concerned, it didn't bother us as we had our hit list of restaurants we wanted to go to, so were out every night.
So to sum it up - go and enjoy your holiday, the hotel will not ruin it for you - I'm very fussy and whilst I won't rush back to the Pelangi in a hurry, it didn't have a negative impact on my holiday at all.
