We have only just returned to the chilly climate of Melbourne, on the 23rd August, and already missing the warmth of Bali.
We hired a limo, for the trip to the Airport, extravagant, but well worth the cost, and promptly checked in so that we could off load the suitcases.
Flew out on the 2nd, with Garuda, uneventful flight, but who wants an eventful one.
Arrived in Bali at 16:30, and paid the VOA very quickly, but we got in the wrong queue, and took over one hour to clear customs, but who cares we are on holiday.
Went to the taxi window, and paid the 55,000 Rupiah to Sanur, the taxi driver struggled to get the 4 of us in the cab, as well as the luggage, but he did it, so when we arrived at the Besakih hotel, we decided to give him a 10,000 tip, and he promptly demanded more, welcome back.
We have never been to Sanur before, but we will certainly go again, it is a very peaceful place, not like Kuta, which is very crowded.
Went to numerous restaurants whilst in Sanur, i will not recommend any particular restaurants, as we found that, after visting certain places that had been recommended, we must have gone when the head chef had a night off.
My wife had 10 cushions made, for our dining chairs from a template she cut, and Wayan did a fantastic job, all of them fitted perfectly, and all for only 50,000 Rupiah each, delivered to our hotel in Tuban, after visting Lombok.
My wife and i were asked to attend a wedding ceremony, by a friend of ours, and it was the best experience we have ever had, the only downfall was that we arrived too late to wear the traditional costumes, and we were the only westerners out of approximately 300 hundred people, if anyone has a chance to go to a wedding, take it, you will have an enjoyable time.
The wedding party look fanastic in their costumes, and are very colourful, the ceremony takes approximately 3 hours, with a pantomine included, which we did not understand, but our friend tried her best to help us, and at one point my wife was included in the pantomine, which the locals loved.
After the wedding, there is a meal included, which was probably the best meal we had in Bali.
We arranged a driver for the next day, to take us to Git Git waterfall, and he arrived all smiles and playing a harmonica, saying that the day is ours, and he will take us anywhere we wanted to go.
The first 2 stops were at a silk shop and a silver shop none of which we wanted to go to, so after explaining what we wanted to see, we were off again, this time a scenic route, that he brings all the tourists to see, right next to a restaurant that serves lunch if we wanted at 10:30am, but we told him that we would have lunch after seeing the falls.
Finally arrived at the falls, passing all the stall holders on the way down, and although they are not the biggest waterfalls we have seen, they are still very good, and you can strip off and have a dip, and it is very refreshing, we stayed about an hour.
On our return back from the falls, our driver met us half way, saying he was hungry, and we told him he did not have to wait for us, and that he could have eaten whilst we were at the falls.
As we were passing a stall, she found rugs she thought she would like, our friends said that they would wait at the restaurant for us,
while she bargained for them, and about 5 minutes passed before the driver came looking for us again, yelling it was time for lunch, and I finally realised why he kept trying to get us to the restaurant, the lunch was nearly closing.
I looked at the prices, and thought that I was not eating there, small Bintangs were 25,000 Rupiah, with a 21% surcharge, as we were leaving the surcharge suddenly disappeared, but after the driver yelling at my wife, that it was time for lunch, I had had enough. needless to say there was no more harmonica for the rest of the day.
On that note, I think that will be all for now, and I will post another one soon.
