We are constantly told that almost all the drug peddlers in Bali are working in with the police and the cops will move in if you are unwise enough to buy. I have no experience of this, but would be prepared to accept this as correct.
If there were no potential buyers, then there would be no sellers and no arrests. I'm not being moralistic here, whatever a person can do and generally get away with in their home country is a different matter. It's just not a good idea to mess with drugs in Bali [or in many other countries either].
It's obviously inappropriate and unproductive to threaten to withdraw financial support for a country, just because they have a vigorous drug policing policy on their own soil.
