Firstly i will answer some questions from previous post.
1. Su's Prince location
Double 6 road right hand side heading towards beach about half way down. The sign on post still says Prince Hotel not Su's Prince. Blue Star resturant is on opposite side of road.
2.FF points were booked well in advance and my advice is to be very patient with phone operators and politeness goes a long way. They even offered to call me the moment flights became available. When i book a holiday thru ff i book upto 12 months prior.Flight was direct.
3. La Lucciolas would not cost too much by taxi but we used Charlie as the transport guys are suffering because of Blue taxis , also they wait for you and you can shop on way home always a plus.
4. Price for breakfast was what people would call expensive for Bali but well worth it, and we were on holiday.About 30 to 45 rupiah per person. Opens at 9 for breakfast dont know what time brekky finishes as we were always early.Different menu on weekends but both menus great choice.
Ok now for some more jbr.
Before going further i must also add that we ate at Cafe Mocca on Legian Street, just walking distance from 66 . Beautifull french bakery offering nice brekkys which are all accompanied by a basket of fresh bread and rolls with the nicest ever pineapple jam i have ever eaten. Price also not cheap by Bali standards approx 35 rupiah per person. But while on holidays im not prepared to worry about money. This place is well worth a visit.
Now our first adventure out into the street and to deal with transport guys, hawkers, shop sellers, time share scams ,what can i say but i loved every one of them.I found that the "hello mum,how are you?" all said with a huge smile and quickly followed by "transport" became such a great game. Advice to others is dont get annoyed just smile back and say no thanks, always recieved a big smile in return.I found it pleasant and the guys were expecting the same answer from me and we were never hassled.Same goes for time share scams , a reply of "sorry already done that" and a smile with a laugh and shake of the head stopped them, and recieved a smile and laugh back at us.Found that most shops in 66 were "fixed" price always had a small discount.Shops were selling very good quality clothing and there is a great little shop in 66 thats sells great beaded type necklaces very cheap around 10,000 rupiah. I think between myself and daughter we bought one of everything they had. What excellent christmas presents if i can choose which ones i would give away. Hint...buy two of some so the choice is easy.
On the way home from La Lucciolas one morning my daughter spotted a beautifull mosquitoe net which she had to have. We stopped and Charlie did his usual traffic controll duty and got us all safefully across the busy road, remember my mother is 84 and although very active still, running across the street is something she cant do. Once inside this little store my daughter got down to business and not only bought the net but also got curtains made for her room , along with a runner to go on dresser to match. Not to miss out I managed to have curtains made for 3 rooms,
in the most loveliest natural look material .All of them with tab tops and wooden buttons, and of course i needed 8 cushion covers made to match.9 curtains and 8 covers worked out at about 100 aust dollars, could not have bought cheaper at home. The quality and workmanship was superb.
Other things we had made in Bali were; daughter had a king size quilt cover made in hot pink and gold stitching sari silk material, with 2 huge cushion covers to match ,approx price in aussie dollars 100.My mother had a soft pink leather jacket made {100 aust} beautiful.I had a deep purple /plum colour leather bag , saddle bag style, made for about 45 aust, excellent quality after we had them remove the pink zip and replace with black.
Most of our shopping was done once again thru friends of my sister. In the art markets in Melasti street we bought lots of under the counter Billabong , Quiksilver etc. Shirts and shorts about 30,000 rupiah. These were bought from a lovely lady named Made and she makes shopping easy.No bargaining with her just sit down on floor or chair , select what you wish to purchase and she just gives you her best price straight up.Not only does she calculate it in rupiah she also converts it back to aust and explains to you that each item only cost 3.50 in aust dollars.Watches also bought thru a friend of my sister and once again Romy just gives you his lowest price so we bought 6.My daughter wanted pearls , so once again sister to rescue and Ali showed up with pearls.
Ok have to go to work again...gee live is hard again.lol
Will write more later
