Nusa Lembongan can be seen from various parts of East Bali and isn't very far. But the fairly narrow strait can get quite rough and has strong tidal currents at times. We've been over on the traditional large outrigger from Sanur and had a reasonably smooth ride, but we came back on the state-of-the-art modern ferry and got thrown around all over the place. My understanding is that this situation is not uncommon. Also, to my knowledge the best snorkeling at Nusa Lembongan is by boat, rather than off the beach. Under the circumstances, I wouldn't be inclined to risk it.

Maybe next time you could consider spending a few days in Lipah village [Amed]. Good snorkeling right in front of the Vienna Beach Hotel, straight off the beach. A nice quiet area, with plenty of accomodation and eating places at very reasonable prices. And some great scenery between there and Candi Dasa.

Try Geger Beach. It's not too far, it's a nice clean sandy beach and you can buy food and drinks there. A pleasant place to visit, regardless of the snorkeling.

And best wishes for you and your baby.
