We too had free travel insurance this time by paying for half the fares with our gold card BUT when push comes to shove, the excess is high. like $nz250. Whereas last time we paid a very small premium to Mike henry and they waived the excess.
Each claim was similar - I dropped a bundle of cash $nz650, at Auckland Airport BNZ - I thought I pushed it into my pocket but it was caught in a fold of material and I was very nervous of having so much cash on me - and MH paid up very promptly on my return and no excess. Similar thing happened in Ubud, this time dropping the whole wallet - cred cards drivers licence the lot and Zurich reminded me when i asked for a claim form that the excess was $nz 250. This was the first I'd heard the excess, I presume it was somewhere in the fine print but I didn't spot it and I read the information very carefully. You could write away to get all the terms and conditions so it must have been in there - very tricky and too bad for me this time and them next time. Lesson learned, free insurance is worthless - I'll buy some real cover from Mike henry next time.
