I think I understand what you're after...although I don't have your kind of budget, I've seen pleny of places in my searches on the internet which probably are along the lines of what you're after. Have you done any searches for 'villa bali' or 'bungalow bali' etc? I've seen lots of smaller more intimate looking 'hotels' (with, say, between 3 and 10 free-standing villas/bungalows), many being small family ventures where I'm sure you would get that 'family feel'. There seem to be all sorts of little hotel booking places online too that specialize in more intimate types of accomodation.

You know, when I first started my searches, I was staying away from anything described as a 'villa' because I thought it would be too expensive, but actually villas come in a wide range of prices and styles and situations - some are people's (often foreigners) own homes that they rent out while they're away, some are in groups of 2 or more and owned by Balinese families (as their main business I would guess), some are purpose-built luxury 'boutique' places. Most have swimming pools and maid service and often cooks. Have you not checked any of these places out? I'm sure that you would find what you're looking for amongst all of those listings
