For all those who may be interested in our Distribution Day for the Bali Schoolkids Project, I thought I would share the following with you.
We are calling this event "Hari Gembira Pelangi anak-anak Bali" (A Happy Day To Rainbow Bali Kids). The 'Rainbow' part is a visualization in which the many colours each represent the varied social and community activities of the project such as scholarship, literacy, health, water management, etc.
The packages for every child are almost complete and will be given out on Saturday August 27th.
Each child will receive: 2 school uniforms, an exercise uniform, a scout uniform, 1 cap, 1 school tie, 1 belt, 2 pairs of shoes, 4 pairs of socks, 1 school bag, 12 writing books, 6 ball point pens 6 pencils, 2 rulers, and 2 erasers. When you multiply that by over 300 children, it has been a huge job to organize.
At this event, there will be other programs and games to make it a more memorable one for all, such as a fun walk with all the villages around the Sobangan village and there will be ‘door' prizes for those who join it, there will be extra nutrition and milk to all the kids, some fun games with prizes or awards to the winners, free medical health check-up like eyes or cataract medical check-up using the Rotary Mobile Eye Clinic, women's health using the Rotary Women's Health Mobile Clinic, general check-ups, and blood donor using the Bali Blood Bank Mobile and of course the main agenda is distributing the presents to the kids. It will be a big promotion day for Rotary so the people will more open minded about the Rotary Clubs and our activities. Don't blame me for the 'Rainbow' name. It is only intended to show there is a pot of gold at the end of the education rainbow, no other connotations were meant.
The location will be at the same place as last years Distribution Day in Sobangan public hall (Wantilan Masyarakat Sobangan) with the distributing starting at 11.00 a.m.
The fun walks however will be starting at about 7 - 8.00 am depending upon which school. If you are in Bali and want to get times and start locations for your child, phone Suryawan at 7410930 or Agung at 265126.
In the afternoon we are hoping to have a celebration for Independance Day (bit late, I know) and a Temple Ceremony where we will provide translators for people like me.
If you are in Bali at the time, you will be more than welcome to join us.
Geraldine and I fly out tomorrow and are looking forward to catching up with everybody. Will post a JBR on return.
Cheers
Noel
