Hi Jaqui,

Having a mother who has been sewing for aliving since the age of 13 & being a person who sews as well. I can tell you the measrements that you will need:

Chest
Waist
Length of the dress ( this is from the centre of the shoulder & the tape measurer running down the front) to the desired length.
Hip (if the dress is to fall out from the waist then this is not necessary)
Sleeve length from the edge of the shoulder to the desired length

those are the basic measurements. Then it depends on the style of the dress. I would also take a measurement from the neck opening to the edge of the shoulder. You do not want the sleeve/shoulder seam to sit either in the middle of the shoulder or hanging down the arm.

If you have a dress that fits her well, or that will fit her when she is ti have her communion, take that as well. It al helps, especially if the person is not there to try it on.

One last tip. Ask them to leave a generous seam allowance (or incorporate it into your measurements), I would say about 2.5-3cm. Just in case they make the dress too small, you can let it out where it needs it.

Hope this helps
let me know how you go,

Cheers

Pastor
