In Sydney there is the Bali Street Dog Fund , www.balistreetdogs.org.au who do a great job fundraising for the Bali Street Dog Foundation ,www.yamp.com/balidogs , which is run in Bali by a Balinese vet and an american lady named Sherry Grant.
The foundation has two mobile clinics, one that is booked to visit villages a month in advance and and one that goes to local emergencies around Kuta,Legian and Sanur etc
I had the honour of spending a day with a clinic that visited the village KlungKung last year.It was an amazing experience. This efficient team set up a vet clinic in the village banjar(raised tiled platform, open air with roof) and the villagers were able to bring their dogs for treatment and desexing free of charge. The team also caught the local strays and desexed them also. This happens 5 days a week(as of then Sept last year they had desexed about 14000 dogs)While all that is going on the school children are gathered up and given a fun and educational session on care and respect for animals. The other van will go out to calls about dogs that are chronic with mange(unbearable condition for the dog),pregnant, nursing or injured. They also will drive about looking for dogs to help and of course provide euthanasia when it is needed.
Lots of people do lots of fundraising to keep this program going, lots of tourist bring in food, skin treatments and veterninary supplies etc to drop off when they get to Bali. The team themselves are just marvellous, doing such a great job.....my day with them(I was writing an article for the RSPCA) was overwheleming, when I got back to my hotel room I just cried with relief that something was being done to help this dog population......which is why I felt I had to say something, and I never usually say much on this forum....and yes I know people need help in Bali too,and there are loads of wonderful people doing that too, evryone helps where they can.You will find both websites interesting.....hope you don't really hate dogs :-)
