Hi Ian & Rob,
We're flying to Bali via Bangkok from Aug 23 - Sept 10. Not sure if you've booked the Lon/Bkk yet but I looked into it in a big way, and I couldn't get any connections to work.
The cheapest way is Air Asia, but they go via Kuala Lumpur, and I seem to remember the connections are bad on the return - ie you'll have to overnight at KL. Also, the luggage restrivtion is 15k - no good if you want to shop!
I also found that if you buy a Garuda ticket via their Bkk office, it's 1/2 the price of Garuda UK, but again, you have to overnight in Jakarta on the return, and they don't fly direct.
Eventually,we've booked EVA AIR LHR - BKK in Evergreen Deluxe - more leg room & baggage, and direct flight for £610 incl tax. We're overnighting at the airport for about £20 via Asiarooms.com, then flying Thai direct to DPS. The cheapest way suprisingly, and I tried some BKK agents, was via Thai Airways website, and we paid £200 rtn each, incl of tax.
Our EVA tickets we bought from Airline Network, but Trailfinders were about the same. Both of these quoted £400 rtn for the Thai flight, so do use their website.
Hope that helps - feel free to ask any other questions.
