We did the Reef cruise in late April. You spend most of the day on th epontoon, but an island tour (walking) is an optional activity. The lunch on the boat, while it was moored at the pontoon was also fantastic. We decided we liked it so much we stayed overnight at the Hai Tide Huts. They were gorgeous. When we were there, the pool was absolutely spotless - definitely no brown water!
I gather the activities are available on either cruise - the difference is whether your base is on the islan, which has grassy lawns, beach and facilities, or on the pontoon and boat.
