Garuda prepares contingency plan in case of walkout

JAKARTA (Antara): The management of national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia said that the company had prepared a contingency plan in preparation for the planned strike of its cabin attendants to be held between Aug. 12 and Aug. 14.

"We are ready to use our cabin attendants who are currently working at the ground or cabin attendants who are on leave," Garuda spokesman Pujobroto said on Tuesday.

The Association of Garuda Cabin Attendants (Ikagi) threatened to walk off the job from Friday to Sunday unless the management met their demands for a salary hike and other benefits.

Pujobroto said that the management had accommodated several of Ikagi's demands, including the plan to increase the salary of cabin attendants.

"I don't understand why they are pushing for a higher salary while the company is facing tough times due to the increase in operational costs due to the fuel price hike," he said.

He however, said that the management would still open the door for dialog with Ikagi to solve the dispute.

"The management has yet to determine what sanctions will be imposed on staff joining the rally," he said.(*)
