We recently had our new slimline PS2, bought at christmas, chipped here in Melbourne.
Cost was $120, and for an extra $20 the guy guaranteed the whole deck (including laser) for 12 months.
It works well, but he recommended only buying games burned onto 'Ritek' discs (better quality) to make life easier for the laser, (Apparently these better quality discs are easier for the laser to read, therefore it doesn't have to work as hard.)
Of course, the first bundle of games we bought were NOT on Ritek, and consequently, some of them lock up after 20 - 30 mins of play. Others are OK... just luck of the draw. (Good excuse for the kids not to play too long, anyway!!)
Also, very sensitive to fingerprints.
I don't expect any of the games on sale in Bali will be on top quality CD's such as Ritek???
Anyway, bottom line is that you CAN chip the slimline PS2 and have it work ok.
Hope this helps.
