Firstly thanks to everyone for all the info I gathered from the forum.

We left from Perth with Air Paradise and would definitely choose to fly with them again.

Stayed in Legian for 4 nights at the Niksoma in a deluxe room. We were impressed with this hotel, good sized room and balcony, great beachfront location, excellent buffet breakfast and would highly recommend their restaurant for an evening meal. Also ate at Paul's Place in Seminyak and although the food was OK - fusion style, the whole atmosphere felt a little odd. Went to Merrys Tailors and was not impressed with the service. Had a great time shopping at Geneva Handcrafts. Once again all the drivers of the blue bali taxis were great - so much traffic to negotiate, so many bikes!

From Legian we travelled a couple of hours west to stay at Puri Dajuma Cottages which is a small 10 cottage resort situated in lovely gardens fronting a black sand beach. We stayed here for 3 nights, and spent our time taking long beach walks, walking through the village, reading, swimming in the pool and watching the many fishermen set sail each evening in their tiny boats and returning with their catch the following morning. I also had a great massage in their lovely spa area. We ate all reasonably priced meals at their restaurant whilst admiring the wonderful ocean view. The quite new cottages were very comfortable and the staff are just so friendly. A great place for relaxing and it is also close to the Medewi Surf beach.

We then travelled to Ubud where we stayed at Samhita Garden (previously known as Santika Garden) on Jalan Bisma. This is a good central location and we enjoyed our stay here. The only downfall was the lack of friendly faces, especially noticeable on arrival. Next door we discovered the Restaurant Café des Artistes, run by a guy from Belgium and serving really excellent food (and different varieties of Belgium beer). It was hard to walk past this restaurant and go somewhere different. However we did try the fairly new Restaurant Enak which serves Indonesian food with flair - a fun place, and the Barandi Restaurant where we also enjoyed our meal and Indus, an old favourite. After reading great reviews we decided to try the Mozaic Restaurant, and although quite expensive, we were so impressed with their surprise tasting meal of several courses and the excellent service. Recommended for a special night out. I found that the starting prices at the Ubud Markets were very high, and you had to practice your bargaining skills to get a reasonable price.

A wonderful holiday and all too soon we were back in a taxi heading for the airport.
