Bali is safe but like anywhere you have to be wary, so I would be with her at most times especially at night.Best place to change money is at the Kodak shops and in Bali only as rate is better than in Oz banks etc.
Take cash and you can place it in safe deposit box and change daily, no problems and safe.
Food is very cheap and you will probably spend about Aus$100 a day for both of you shopping,food and tours included.
Loads of all massages, surf gear etc this outside of the Bounty Hotel in Poppies Lane 2.
Take a blue taxi from the airport and spend up to 35 000 rph not more. Only tip 5000rph or Aus $1 or 2 coins as some are very persistent so you must be assertive.
Yes, you can change cash at the money changers at the airport. Just change for the day and when you get to hotel and sorted yourselves you can see how it pans out. Money changers are open till late 9 - 10pm at night.
Most of the shops like Mooks, Versace and Ralph Polo and the surf shops sell similar prices to Oz but they do have sales and you can bargain if buying bulk or more than one.
