..and very subjective.

You will get many people on here tell you the local plonk is ok.

You will get others who tell you to stick to the beer.

I think the real question is what do you call "good"?

If you are regularly getting stuck in to bottles of Yara Yerring or Grant Burge Shiraz then no the local wines are no good. If on the other hand you are happy with a glass of three week old Jacobs Creek then you may just survive.

Having never tasted any of the local stuff I can't give you my personal score out of 100. Having said that any answer you recieve will put you in no better postion given that it's all down to personal tatste. What I can tell you, from recent research is that you will only pay about 10-15% more for Aussie red wine in Bali - mostly they stick to the cheap stuff like Rosemount diamond lable. You will pay quite a bit more in resturants but I assuming you are talking about 'bottle shop' prices?

There is quite a bit of Chilean wine available and some of it aint to bad - and I beleieve a little cheaper than Australian wine.

Try this simple test. Go and take a swig of some pot plant water, if you can taste blackberries, liquorice with hints of tobacco with some lingering tannins you might be ok to drink the local stuff. If it just tastes like pot plant water then stick with the imported wine.
