Pauline, we paid $3000 for 2 inc B/F staying 13 1/2nights in 3 different but upmarket hotels (inc the one you stayed which was our cheapest of all three) Flying from Adelaide.
it really depends WHEN you go aswell. This trip my friend and I are going, staying budget and paying under $900 each for 7 days (staying at MBR). Because its off peak (but right at the end of holidays) we could get a cheaper deal. there are even cheaper times of the year aswell.....
It always pays to look around. I go SO MANY quotes and let them all know what the others were quoting so managed to get them to bring it down. Ended up going with the second cheapest one we were offered because the travel agent was SO much friendlier than the cheaper one LOL
