We will probably get there about 3.30-4.00pm. This is the day we arrive so hopefully flights are on time.
Sami and Susies
They are a wife Balinese couple. They set up a very informal beach bar each day located between Jalan Melasti and Jalan Padma, Kuta/Legian.
There are one or two eskys/car fridges/ice boxes, an umbrella for shade and a number of plastic chairs. Over the years it has been a great casual place to meet other families and BT forumulites. People from all countries are welcome. Good place for all to share experiences, compare tips and relax.
It is on the sand and the entrance is on the new road along the beach front between the Mandira and Legian Beach hotels. As you walk through the break in the brick wall on to the sand the lifesavers
stand is on the left and S & S is on the tree line to your right. They have an esky with icy cold beer and soft drinks for the kids. Take a hip flask of spirits if you're not a beer drinker. Get your nails done, have a massage, buy sarongs, beads, tshirts etc.
Most meet up there at a pre arranged time here on the BTF before leaving for Bali. Most meet up at around 4pm at S&S. After drinks at sunset the group normally wander off for dinner somewhere together.
All S&S get togethers start about 4ish in the afternoon (or earlier if you see fit) and closes when the sun goes down otherwise they get busted by the cops. If it is dark when you get there it is too late you have missed out.
Depending on where you are coming from you get there either by the beach road (runs next to the beach) or by Jalan Melasti.
When you reach the turn where the beach road turns into Jalan Melasti you will see (on your right from Jalan Melasti, or straight ahead from the beach road) a small carpark with a huge boom gate and a small security guard hut at the back of this carpark. The boom gate is chained down and the hut is empty.
Go past the gate and keep walking north, on the paving, keeping the beach on your left. About 300m up you will see a cream coloured building on your right, this is the surf club building. It is a small building about the size of a large garage.
Opposite this building is a gap in the brick wall with a crossover over the drain. You will also find the huge tree's there. Walk through the trees and you will see the lifeguard tower on your left which is hidden by the trees (it is not that tall). On your right is a little warung (food stall) which serves great local food.
Ahead of you by the edge of the trees there should be a red esky on a blue painted wooden table. This is Sammy and Suzie's.
Another thing to look for is the streets ice-cream umbrella. If you yell out Sammy when you get there, you will be approached by a fella with the toothiest smile you have ever seen. This is Sammy. He will greet you with the warmest of welcomes.
Sammy is a lovely bloke but if he is not there make sure to ask when he will be there. There's a rumour that he is living the life of luxury at home and making Suzie go down everyday to do the work.
