The Padma is very good (5 star) and the Mandira (about 3 star) is across the road.
We often stay at the Mandira because it represents good value. The rooms are a bit on the small side but then you mainly only sleep in them. The Mandira has lovely spacious gardens around the pool areas overooking the beach and it is located close to shopping and restuarants. They need to request the best type of room they can afford (standard - superior - deluxe or suite). They have a web site.
If they stay in a deluxe cottage the renovations won't be noticed.
